Periodontal Treatment

Gum disease affects millions of Americans. While it cannot be reversed, it needs to be treated as soon as possible to mitigate side effects and protect your gums. At Boca Dental Group, our team works hard to help protect the oral health of our clients.

Who Needs Periodontal Treatment?

There are several reasons why a patient may need treatment for gum disease:

Because it is irreversible, our goal is to catch gum disease as early as possible. If left untreated, periodontitis can lead to numerous unpleasant outcomes, including tooth loss.

What to Expect from Periodontal Treatment

Periodontal treatment typically starts with scaling and root planing. Our goal is to address all the tartar, plaque, and bacteria that has accumulated below the gum line. This part of the treatment is also often referred to as a “deep cleaning.”

Periodontal Maintenance Therapy

Once that’s complete, you will need to visit our office for regular teeth cleanings. While patients often only need cleanings once every six months, we recommend a greater frequency for patients with gum disease: once every three or four months.

While gum disease cannot be reversed, the inflammation should die down once it has been treated. This process can take up to a month, depending on the severity of the case.
